| Singapore Botanic Gardens Extension |

|
| |
| To mark its 150th Anniversary, an additional 9.8 hectares of parkland will be added to the Botanic Gardens at Tyersall Avenue. This will form a seamless extension to the west of the Gardens, bringing the total area of the Gardens to almost 74 hectares. Together, they will form an enlarged forest habitat and an important ex-situ conservation area. This enlarged scientific asset will play an integral role in strengthening the Gardens as an important tropical institute for research, conservation and education. The extension will also provide even more opportunities for Singaporeans and foreign visitors to enjoy this unique green space set within our city. |

Healing Garden
The healing garden will be a botanically diverse showcase of
plants used in medicine by various cultures in Asia. It is a
demonstration that this cornucopia of nature is an important
part of health care provision in many countries. Such plants
are an essential part of their cultures, histories and beliefs.
It is a reminder that plants are ‘chemical factories’.
The healing garden will be designed and planted as a friendly,
therapeutic and tranquil place.
The plants are organized around the theme of ailments and associated
with their treatment. Such an approach, aided by creative interpretative
techniques, will be educational, yet entertaining. The physical
configuration of these plant groupings takes the form of a human
figure, giving rise to interesting signage / wayfinding possibilities.
Targeted completion: 2010 |
