Singapore Botanic Gardens Extension

To mark its 150th Anniversary, an additional 9.8 hectares of parkland will be added to the Botanic Gardens at Tyersall Avenue.  This will form a seamless extension to the west of the Gardens, bringing the total area of the Gardens to almost 74 hectares.  Together, they will form an enlarged forest habitat and an important ex-situ conservation area.  This enlarged scientific asset will play an integral role in strengthening the Gardens as an important tropical institute for research, conservation and education.  The extension will also provide even more opportunities for Singaporeans and foreign visitors to enjoy this unique green space set within our city.

Visitors can look forward to:

The Learning Forest

The Learning Forest will showcase the best of tropical trees that grow under local conditions and strengthen the Botanic Gardens' position as a premier institute for research, conservation and education. Visitors will be able to appreciate this unique collection of trees and plants through various thematic walks within the Learning Forest featuring giant trees, trees with interesting forms and barks of various textures, a conservation collection of rare fruit and nut species and a bamboo garden.

Targeted Completion: 1st Quarter 2015

Marshland

Another highlight of the extension will be a marshland that will showcase a diversity of tropical wetland plant species and aquatic wildlife, including birds and amphibians.

Targeted Completion: 1st Quarter 2015
